Vivalytic Steptococcus A test*

The innovative PCR test for the detection of group A streptococcus

We are developing a test for the rapid and reliable detection of group A streptococci. The Vivalytic Streptococcus A test* detects group A Streptococcus both rapidly and reliably, allowing prompt treatment.

Streptococcus pyogenes, also known as group A Streptococcus, is a group of gram-positive bacteria which can be carried in human throats or skin. It is responsible for more than 500 000 deaths annually worldwide. Transmission occurs through close contact with an infected person and can be passed on through coughs, sneezes, or contact with a wound. (1)

Group A Streptococcus (GAS) represents the most common cause of bacterial pharyngitis in school-aged children. GAS infections usually cause a mild illness including a sore throat, headache, and fever, along with a fine, red rash (scarlet fever). The incidence of GAS pharyngitis usually peaks during winter months and early spring in Europe. Outbreaks in kindergartens and schools are frequently reported. GAS pharyngitis is diagnosed by rapid antigen detection test and/or bacterial culture and is treated with antibiotics and supportive care. (2)

In rare cases, GAS bacteria can also cause an infection known as invasive group A Streptococcus (iGAS), which may manifest as bacteraemia, pneumonia, or skin and bone infection (cellulitis, osteomyelitis, necrotising fasciitis). Children with viral infections such as varicella (chickenpox) or influenza are at higher risk of developing iGAS infection. (2)

What exactly happens in the Vivalytic Analyser?

The Vivalytic Analyser automates complex, molecular diagnostic processes that previously had to be carried out manually. This promotes high safety and quick availability of the test results.

Frequently asked questions

Do you have any questions? We have the answers.

With Vivalytic, not only singleplex tests are possible, but also multiplex tests. In addition, users benefit from the large number of tests and the time saved thanks to automation.

With the Vivalytic Analyser and accompanying cartridges, no additional peripheral devices like laptop, keyboard, barcode scanner are required.

Depending on the type and complexity of the test, it can take 30 to 90 minutes.

In a STI test, a urine sample or a urogenital swab is used as the sample type.

Yes, the cartridge contains everything that is required for the complete test sequence.

The option of using ultrasound for homogenisation and lysis enables the use of liquid samples and tissue as well as samples on a carrier material, such as a swab.
