Candida auris

Reliable test results with the Vivalytic C. auris test*

Candida auris is an emerging fungal pathogen of the genus Candida, which is becoming increasingly important worldwide as a cause of serious nosocomial infections. The often occurring multiple resistances to antimycotics poses serious therapeutic challenges. Regarding limited therapeutic options and the potential severity of the infections, the containment of outbreaks and control of transmission of Candida auris in healthcare settings requires strict adherence to hygiene measures, the development and use of effective antifungal therapies and precise diagnostics.(1),(2)

Candida auris is a commensal inhabitant that colonizes various parts of the human body, such as the skin, ears and wounds. Once entering the bloodstream Candida auris can cause bloodstream-associated infections. The pathogen shows a broad range of symptoms like sepsis, urinary tract infections, wound infections, ear infections and respiratory tract infections. Many people carry the fungus without showing symptoms, therefore unrecognized transmission can occur. However, people with severe underlying medical conditions or a compromised immune system are at increased risk of Candida auris infections.(1),(3)

Candida auris is transmitted from person to person or via surfaces, especially in healthcare facilities, where uncontrolled transmission can lead to outbreaks.(2),(4)

The point-of-care PCR test* from Vivalytic enables rapid and targeted detection of Candida auris directly at the point of sample collection. Compared to the time-consuming traditional diagnostic methods, the Vivalytic C. auris test offers an ideal opportunity to speed up detection and outbreak containment.
